Utility-scale solar energy systems, or solar power plants, consist of hundreds to thousands of ground-mounted solar panels that span multiple acres of land and feed energy directly into the grid, or into energy storage units for use later when there is little or no sunlight . A majority (~60-70%) of utility solutions utilize central inverter medium-voltage module-based solutions for installations >5 MW.

Utility-Scale String Inverters

New 1500 V photovoltaic systems are rapidly becoming the design standard, and 1500 V internal bus voltage is enabling larger string inverters, meaning fewer inverters per system and reduced cabling costs.
